Complete and Balanced Nutrition

A balanced nutritional regimen includes food items from all the food groups. The Israeli food pyramid or the American plate simulation emphasize what is needed to ensure that we receive a balanced daily diet.

First and foremost, it’s very important to drink the proper amount of liquids, as water constitutes 60% of our body weight.

Carbohydrates make up some 55% of our daily calorie consumption. Bread, noodles, rice, oats, corn, wheat, groats, buckwheat, cereals and potatoes are examples of carbohydrate-rich foods. When selecting carbohydrates, it’s important to note the fiber content and to select foods containing fibers.

Protein constitutes a very important element in nutrition, with the body using it to build cells, including muscle cells. Proteins include foods such as meat, fish, dairy products and legumes.  This group provides between 15%-20% of the required amount of calories per day.

Fat-rich foods include oil, avocado, raw tahini, mayonnaise, nuts, almonds, olives, margarine, and butter. These foods are critical for your health, and it’s important to note that, because they have a high concentration of calories, a small amount of food rich in fat provides a high level of calories to your diet. In cases where it is important to enrich your daily diet, it is recommended to consume a large number of foods from the fat category, which provides up to 30% of the required amount of calories per day.

Fruits and vegetables are another important part of your daily menu, as they are a significant source of dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals.

Combining all the food groups ensures a varied and balanced diet. A complete diet can also be based on designated nutritionally-complete liquid formulas that are approved by the Ministry of Health.
